Today I spent some time
chatting with Cristina from the brand and store La Petite Parade, in
Barcelona’s stunning and historical Gothic area. Read more from our interview
below…
Hi Cristina, so what is
your concept?
I, along with my friend Laura
Bergas Ferriol founded
La Petite Parade five years ago. At the beginning, the concept of the store was
to sell unique products, pieces you will not see anywhere else. We wanted to
provide the customer with good quality, original product.
We have known each other for
over eight years, both studying fashion design in Barcelona. We created a few
collections together before we started selling vintage clothes. We realized to
have a production line in Spain was impossible and it cost so much money that
we didn’t have, therefore, we decided to start selling second hand clothes.
First of all, we started by
buying vintage garments. It was a new challenge for us as designers, we wanted
to be distinguishable from the high fashion brands by offering unique
prints, patterns, etc.
In the last few months we
have changed our concept slightly. We decided to introduce designer brands from
Barcelona on the ground floor of the store and house our vintage collection on
the first floor. We wanted to help other fashion designers, to give them the
chance to have a corner in a store because sometimes this is unattainable for
them.
We also lend our vintage or
designer collections to the press, the TV or magazines, singers…
Where did the name La Petite
Parade come from?
In France, there is a
military parade so that was a source of inspiration for us as our plan was to
offer a trend parade. We stock fashion pieces from many different periods, from
the 60’s to the 90’s.
Where else do you sell
your clothes?
We also sell our vintage
collection in different vintage markets in Barcelona, for example the monthly
Brick Lane Bcn Market. The goal of selling in markets is also to promote our
store.
Do you have new projects
coming up?
Well,
a few months ago, my boyfriend and I opened up a bar called D Picos Pardos on C/Blesa 36, Bajos in Poble Sec which is a
totally different direction to fashion but I am in charge of the décor which is
inspired by the 70’s.
Another
project that I have been working on for a while now is my own collection. Regarding Laura she has created her own brand called Zou Bizou.
We
also decided to organize an event every 3-4 months, it will be a pop-up market
in our store with vintage sellers and fashion designers from Barcelona.
Our
first market will be this Saturday 15th November.
Here
is the flyer below.
Could you show us your
favorite outfit that you have in the store?
Apart from vintage, I like
looks from the 90´s and oversized outfits. I have chosen to create this one as
it is very on trend, inspired by Swedish style, oversized and in dark colours.
I also used my favorite brands that I have in store.
The cardigan is from
Pitagora, a brand which offers unisex garments. I paired it with this Pop
England jumper, which I love, because it has a vintage style. The skirt is from
Mythe Clothing, a new brand from Barcelona for fashionistas.
What is selling right now?
At the moment I would say the
designer brands, our customers are into those new designs as they are different
from high street fashion brands!
Who is the La Petite Parade
customer?
Well we have a large target
base ranging from 18-45 years old. They are people who like fashion, and are
looking for new trends.
Thank you for your time Cristina, I will see you at the pop-up store on saturday!
